| RSD PUZZLE # 139 RSD and Neuropathy Question: I have been told I have neuropathy and I have RSD. Is the Neuropathy a result of the RSD?
Answer: There are two types of neuropathies: One is the neuropathy involving large myelinated nerves such as seen with diabetes or nutritional neuropathy (e.g. alcohol neuropathy). The second type is neuropathy seen in neuropathic pain such as RSD (CRPS). This involves microscopic nerves in wall of blood vessels causing poor circulation, etc . . . It is not at all unusual to see the two types of neuropathy present in the same patient. As such, both diseases should be treated at the same time. Sincerely, H. Hooshmand, M.D. |
