| RSD PUZZLE #65 THE SPREAD OF RSD (ALSO SEE RSD PUZZLE #18) You have inquired about the possibility of the spread of RSD. I am enclosing more than a dozen references that show RSD spreads. It is quite common for RSD to involve other extremities. Because of the fact that the chain of sympathetic ganglia are connected with each other vertically and horizontally (on the same side vertically up and down and the opposite side horizontally in the anterior aspect of the vertebrae) the RSD has a strong tendency to spread from one extremity to the other extremity. The research done by Dr. Basbaum in the University of California, San Francisco, also shows that the involvement of the spinal cord with RSD in the form of damage to and stimulation of a wide dynamic range type of nerve cells (WDR) causes spread of RSD from one side to the other side through the gray matter of the spinal cord. I have also explained the same phenomenon in the book I have written on the subject of RSD published in 1993 by (CRC Press, Boca Raton, FL) in detail. H. Hooshmand, M.D. |
